Alicia is a Mexican traditional dance artist, choreographer, and educator with over 30 years of professional experience. She graduated from the National School of Mexican Traditional Dance at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico after six years of formal training. During her career in Mexico, she performed with several dance groups on renowned stages including the Castillo de Chapultepec and the Palacio de Bellas Artes, and participated in traditional Mexican productions at Restaurant Arroyo.
Since moving to Edmonton in 2013, Alicia has become an active contributor to the city’s intercultural arts community. She performs, teaches, and collaborates with cultural organizations and festivals, sharing the richness of Mexican dance traditions with diverse audiences. Her work has been presented at major community events such as the Heritage Festival, Celebration of Women by AHC, Day of the Dead celebrations, the Magpie Collection, and the Thousand Faces Festival. She has also performed at events organized by the City of Edmonton at venues including Edmonton Tower and the Royal Alberta Museum.
Through performance, choreography, and community engagement, Alicia’s work focuses on preserving and celebrating Mexican cultural traditions while creating meaningful connections between cultures. Her artistic practice highlights dance as a powerful tool for cultural exchange, community building, and intercultural dialogue.
