Viva Dance Company
Viva Dance Company thrives at the intersection of artistry and athleticism. Their signature style integrates contemporary dance with modern, acro-yoga, and dynamic ballet. This is the language the dancers use to share their stories: stories of empowerment, of unravelling, of loss, of identity. With a mission to serve the community through their art, Viva has added the magic of dance to hundreds of events since 2012 including fundraisers for the Royal Alexadra Hospital, the Stollery Hospital, the Free Store for Ukrainian Newcomers, S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance, CASA, Rotary Club, and many more.
Artistic Director and active company dancer, Stephanie Lilley, has created 6 full length productions which have taken the dancers to 15 Fringe Festivals. Many accolades have been awarded throughout Viva’s Fringe circuit including “Best Dance Show” from the Orlando Fringe, the Dorothy Scott Theater Creator Award from the Edmonton Fringe, and a bounty of 5-star reviews.
Viva impacts their audiences deeply as their art is authentic and relatable, broaching subjects such as fluidity of identity and the non-male experience. In addition to their performances at galas, fundraisers, and Fringe productions, the company has appeared in The Edmonton Singing Christmas Tree, Crescendo, Western Canada Fashion Week, Women of Vision Awards, Refinery: The Art Gallery of Alberta, Bravo!, YEG Xmas Market and in Oil Kings games.
Contributing to the local arts community, Viva often presents works at Kaleido Festival, Skirts Afire Festival, and UFEST, and collaborates with other companies such as Orchesis Dance Society, Cuban Movements, Shumka School of Dance, Edmonton School of Ballet, CRIPSiE, Baker Miller Pink, and Romero Dance Collective.
